INNOVATION UNCENSORED & NYEW

As New York Entrepreneur Week takes flight this week, in I thought it appropriate to mention another business related event in NYC. But, alas, I snoozed and I lost. Fast Company's INNOVATION UNCENSORED is SOLD OUT for 2010, but, informing you about it for next year is still worth a blog post as is reminding you of the start of New York Entrepreneur Week which I blogged about a couple of weeks ago, .

I recommend setting up a reminder in your calendar for Innovation Uncensored 2011 and/or get on their mailing list / subscribe to their blog to avoid blowing it next year. Being a loyal Fast Company reader, I'd have to believe them. The list of moderators and speakers is just nuts.

In the interim, do check out New York Entrepreneur Week this week and consider joining us for the launch of "Do It In Person" with a cocktail party in Rockefeller Center on Thursday, April 15th where we can toast to the positive indicators of an economic recovery in America. Details on this cocktail party, daily tickets and week long passes for NYEW are still available HERE

As always, feel free to send me interesting events for me to consider posting. If you'd like to know what kinds of events I am looking for read the following white papers, posted on my blog: (1) What is an Event (2) Got an Event? This blog DOES NOT feature other kinds of gatherings such as "promotions", "spectacles", "performances", "attractions", "sporting events", "private events", "recurring club nights" or things that are strictly "parties".

Pebble Beach Food and Wine

PEBBLE BEACH, CA || APRIL 8 -11
The Aspen Food and Wine Classic has long been one of my favorite events. But, having attended three times, I'm looking to other, newer food & wine events to experience in places I have not explored so much. This could be the alternative of choice. As it is a sister event to the Aspen deal, it's got to be top-shelf.

It's short notice, I know, but if you have the means and your calendar is open, I'd blast off to Monterrey Peninsula this weekend. It's all there. 250 wines, 60 chefs (too many names to drop but they include Pépin, Puck, Yamaguchi and Tsai) 4 days of foodie bliss and, of course, Pebble Beach. One could experience a flogging there and almost enjoy it. That coast line is beautiful. I had the great fortune of playing The Pebble Beach Golf Links in 1997. It was the experience of a lifetime. So , even if you can't hit this event, get to this place one day. It's ALL THAT!

Tickets start at $100 and packages top out at $4,750 for this event, only in its 3rd year. Several charities benefit from the event and there is even an online auction for those who cannot make it but love the deals charity auctions typically deliver. ONLINE AUCTION HERE

Dressed to Kilt

New York City || April 5
There are just too many things to say here in a Scottish accent that I find it the better part of valor to spare you from my attempting to do so (especially in text). Suffice it to say, that, in any accent, this "Scottish Fashion Event" sound like fun and folly for a good cause. Three, actually. It's loaded with features, famous people and philanthropy and I gotta think it's worth the reasonable price of admission, just $100. No matter how you look at this, "it's not crap!"

The star-studded list of honorees and chairs starts with THE MAN himself, from Scotland with love... Sir Sean Connery. And a gaggle of other famous and fabulous Scots (and not so Scottish people) will also be in attendance including Senator Trent Lott, The Donald (and his hairpiece), George Whipple, (and his eyebrows) actor Mike Meyers, NY Yankee Bernie Williams and Al Roker...and last but not least, Miss Scotland and Joan Jett...but the list goes on and on.

There's so much, in fact, to this event that it's better left you your visiting their web site, I think. Understated is the fact, however, that proceeds will benefit three charities: The Wounded Warrior Project, Erskine Hospital in Scotland and Paralyzed Veterans of America. All noble causes, indeed.

SHOWTEL

West Palm Beach, FL || April 8 - 10

Has your endless quest of discovering hip hotels been letting you down of late? Well, here's one way to bring back the wonder of exploring the vanguard of hotel-chic (and attend a very cool art event, at the same time). I can't really tell if you can stay at the Biba Hotel during the event or if there is "no vacancy" on account of these installations. But, I'm sure there are other accommodations nearby and it's a nice time to visit the sunshine state. I'll take the room by the pool. I mean, IN the pool.

From their web site:

SHOWTEL is the only independent alternative art event of its kind: an annual show of site-specific art in all media including installation, sculpture, video, sound and performance art. Each year, more than twenty artists are selected to transform hotel rooms into conceptual art environments on view for only one or two nights. SHOWTEL is the most infamous art exhibition in Palm Beach County. Two thousand people attended the one-night show in 2009. The show continues to be the only recurring exhibition showcasing emerging contemporary artists from the area. Over 200 artists have participated in the exhibition to date. Showtel is curated by Kara Walker-Tomé.

Vail International Film Festival

VAIL, CO || April 1 - 4

As if you needed another reason to go to Vail before all of the snow is gone! It's not too late to book a last minute ticket to Colorado for this one.

Be on the look out for Jason Braff (Scrubs), Dennis Haybert (24 & The Unit), Ashley Jensen (Ugly Betty & Extras) Patrick Warburton (Seinfeld) and the fabulous Jane Seymour, who I had the pleasure of meeting last September in New York (Thank Jocy). And if you make it out, ask me for connections to any of my many good friends in the Vail Valley. So many good peeps there and I'm happy to introduce.

And although getting there might not be, you'll be happy to know that Vail Film Festival is a Carbon Neutral event. So that's nice!
